Nanotrasen being Nanotrasen, however, the actual implementation of the unions is heavily in NT's favor. A series of approved regional unions was established by Nanotrasen for each of the major departments, and any unauthorized unionization is still strictly prohibited. At some point in the mid-2550's, in response to growing scandal about their workplace conditions, Nanotrasen concedes to make some voluntary worker reforms. One of these reforms is a relaxing of NT's strict ban on worker unionization for its employees operating in the Spinward Periphery and elsewhere outside TerraGov's territories.

Nanotrasen being Nanotrasen, however, the actual implementation of the unions is heavily in their own favor. A series of approved regional unions was established by Nanotrasen for each of the major departments, and any unauthorized unionization is still strictly prohibited. While employees do have some measure of freedom and voice within their departmental union, the leaders are all curiously receptive to NT's needs over those of their fellows. As a result, the unions have a much weaker bargaining position than they would had TerraGov eventually forced Nanotrasen to completely cease its anti-union activities.

Still though, joining a union isn't a bad deal for lots of employees. In exchange for a portion of their wages in dues, union members gain access to a robust network of other professionals in their field, as well as a variety of professional services. For many unionized employees, the social opportunities are enough of a reason to join, and any other benefits are icing on top.

NT Gun Club

The designated union for Nanotrasen security personnel. As the name suggests, the NT Gun Club places great emphasis on firearms, and hosts a variety of cookouts and picnics at gun ranges or open fields when planetside, with a variety of exotic weapons for members to try out and bond over.

Beyond the range gatherings, the NTGC also offers other services security personnel would benefit from, such as legal representation for work-related incidents, crisis-management and de-escalation workshops, and more. Unfortunately, while the NTGC cookouts are popular and highly attended, the workshops aimed at training better, more well rounded officers goes largely ignored by those who would need them the most. Still,

Holy Order of Needle and Knife

The Needle and Knife is unique among the unions available to Nanotrasen's Spinward employees in that it is actually a chapter of an existing professional organization. The Needle and Knife dates back to the 23rd century, as the unique professional and ethical challenges faced by healthcare workers in interstellar travel became clear, prompting a push to create a standard guide of best practices for interstellar medicine. Ever since, the N&K have operated across Civ-Space, as well as more populous parts of the Peripheries.
